Hello Mud Season! – 2015

March 13, 2015

A friend posted this on facebook and after recovering from a minor moment of child-hood-memory induced anxiety (what horse kid did not have anxiety over Atreyu’s loss of Artex in the swamp of sadness?) I laughed my butt off.

Yep, sometime this is how it feels during mud season.

Kissing Winter Goodbye!

March 12, 2015

Over the past few weeks I managed to get in a couple road hacks with Simon, and a few *driveway* hacks with Poe.  Nothing exciting or all that entertaining to share.  I did ride Poe in the snow a few times, and he was nice and steady.  Simon was like riding a giraffe wearing roller skates on ice when I took him in the snow.

And now, we are done with snow.  Bring on the mud.

Happy Spring Forward – 2015

March 10, 2015

I saw a meme on Facebook this weekend stating something about how spring forward is like Christmas for equestrians.  This spring forward we were just coming out of a snow storm with low temperatures and BOOM, we were hit with sunny temperatures in the 50s and 60s.

I had the say off with no plans and spent it mending fences, milling around, playing with the ponies and the dogs and enjoying the weather.  I saw for a while and watched the snow in the barnyard practically turning to mud before my eyes.

Monday morning hit and I had a spring forward hang over.  My head was tight, my eyes were tired and getting out of bed was like trying to wake from a coma.  We still had snow on the ground, but that was sure to melt quickly looking at a week of warm weather and some rain. And to remind me of my Sunday, my arms were a little pink and I felt like I absorbed some vitamin D.

Quote – E.E. Knight – Choice of the Cat – 2015

March 9, 2015

“-who proudly claimed he was eight years old on the ground and eighteen years old in the saddle-“

I think it is a cool quote, particularly for a non-equestrian book.

I am re-reading a book series by E.E. Knight called Vampire Earth (ironically there are no vampires even remotely like Ann Rice’s or from Twilight.  Think Aliens).  I read this series quite a few years ago and several more books in the series have come out since.  So I decided to start it over rather than just picking up where I left off.  I am on, Choice of the Cat: Book Two.

Ponies in the Snow

February 21, 2015

The snow started at about 7:30 this morning. I moved the ponies into the smaller paddock that has a double run in so there would be plenty of space for them to get out of the weather.

I snapped off these photos around noon.
