About Blue Ridge Pony

A self portrait while on a trail ride – June 2011

My name is Krista and I live in the Blue Ridge Valley near Harrisonburg, Virginia, where I frequent the  extensive trail network.

I am also very active with MGAA – Mounted Games Across America, where I serve on the board of governors as the current president. I also compete in the adult “fossil” division and will be starting the 2015 season on a newly formed team, Gone Rogue.

My sidekick is a 13.2h gelding named Simon.  He is a 9 year old, Chincoteague/draft cross I purchased as a 4 year old and promptly bonded with.  Simon has an amazing personality and is forever trying to please.

Simon could be described as an ‘in your pocket’ pony, but really, that would be an understatement.  Nothing would make Simon more happy than to spend every moment of his life occupied as the center of attention.  He is extremely personable, talkative and eager to please.  He likes to show off, and be adored.

Simon loves spending the day trekking through the mountains and exploring new trails.  He also enjoys being a mounted games pony, although Simon would prefer to compete at his own, carousel pony pace.

Poe is a 10 year old POA gelding, standing 13.1h.  I acquired him two summers ago from a wonderful Pony Club family.  He is not fond of children, and was not working out as their child’s mount.  Luckily he turned out to be destined to be a games pony, and took to the sport immediately.  We quickly bonded and I absolutely click with him.  He picked up games so quickly that I finished out the 2013 games season on him with much success.

Poe loves affection, and loves attention.  He continues to surprise me at how quickly he picks things up and how eager he is to learn.  He got the hang of neck reining in no time flat and never batted an ear at flying hand offs.  He is also quiet sensitive and loudly makes it apparent when something is making him unhappy.  He does have a “pony attitude” and tests me on occasion, which keeps things interesting.

Daisy is my Catahoula Dog, rescued from the local SPCA over 5 years ago.  She goes most places with me and is always in a happy mood.  Daisy loves spending the day in the woods, and going to competitions.

I do not claim to be a professional in any way shape or form, and am writing this blog for fun, with the intent of entertaining myself and anyone that is inclined to read it.

Thanks, I think they are the best. Being a book lover, I like a decent review. Thanks.
