Thelwell Poe – 2013

December 12, 2013

Just about everyone in the horse world is at least a little familiar with the Thelwells. They are the misshapen, naughty cartoon ponies that crash through fences, and have short legged kids attempting to ride them.

Poe’s former owner recently sent me a photo of him the day she took her daughter to try him out. He sure does look like a Thelwell in the photo. That or a bloated tick. If his mane and tail were just a little shaggier, they could have passed as riding in a costume class! I love it. Compare the images below and see what you think?

Poe on Tap – 2013

December 2, 2013

My family does not hit the stores on Black Friday, but we did take the dogs for a walk around downtown Frederick (which is mostly dog friendly) for Frosty Friday. We popped into Two Paws Up, the local dog store, where I picked up a special new toy for Daisy, and the Trail House, the local outdoor store.

Don’t worry, Ash was not forgotten. I ordered him a MooChew off Etsy, from a small business. After all, the Saturday after Black Friday is Small Business Saturday. I was going to be riding in the first Taylormade competition Of the season so we jumped on it a day early.

After our walk, we popped into Jekyll and Hyde for lunch. We ordered Burgers and crab dip, Lindsey and I enjoyed Peppermint Patties and Rich and my parents decided to try the Poe beer line on tap! Yep, Poe was in tap in three flavors.

We are an Edgar Allan Poe family with our roots in Baltimore. This made finding Poe, the pony, even more ironic. And since adding him to the family I keep seeing Poe things. Like Poe National Park in PA and a store called Poe’s near Winchester, VA.

Rich said the beer Poe was excellent. He tried the Tell Tail Hearty Ale.

Breyer Thanksgiving – 2013

December 1, 2013

Thanksgiving morning Rich and I packed up the dogs and the ponies and headed to visit my family in Maryland for a few days.

Lindsey joined my family for Thanksgiving and we had an awesome meal and lots of good conversation.

Later my dad helped us break out my old Breyers horses. It was a lot of fun and reminiscence of childhood. We set them all up and tried to match the sets up.

Friday night my mom helped me pack my Breyers back up and load them into my truck. Now I have to figure out what to do with them.

Polocrosse?

November 27, 2013

This weekend I purchased a used Bennett polocrosse stick. Yea!

My only experience with polocrosse is joining a pickup game a few years ago. Simon was still rather young and seemed to enjoy it initially, that was until another pony bumped into him.

Other than that my only other similar experience was playing broomstick polo with Osh Kosh in the mid 90s. We kicked butt at it!

Monday night, I equipped myself with the new racket and hopped on Simon and we played around with one of the tennis balls I had in my games equipment. I am told that a tennis ball is not ideal, but it’s what I had, and it was fun.

Simon seemed to really enjoy himself and was stopping and turning like he meant business. I am not sure if this will be the case if there are other ponies involved, but he was all into playing solo-polocrosse.

I am not sure how Poe will feel about this sport. I do not have high hopes for him with it. He is smart and extremely competitive but I am not sure if he will be too aggressive with other ponies. But hey, we will see.

When I got home I showed Rich the photos below and told him about it and he wants me to get him a stick too so we can play together. I like that idea!

Naked Pony

November 24, 2013

It’s 26 degrees (wind chill of 13) outside and this is how I find Simon.

Note that both belly straps are still hooked. No rips or any damage.
