COTN session 1 – 2016

August 13, 2016

We are at the Cock of the North competition for the weekend!!!

We met our ponies last night.  One, Goose, did not arrive until after dark so it was a quick walk trot bareback ride.  Two were here when we arrived.  Lacey and Jaz are quick little pocket rockets.  And the lovely Ellie is a large paint pony.  The 5th pony is Flicker is a tiny little made games pony.

The first session was a little rough, but the team got a feel of their ponies, each other and the footing.  There were a few dropped hand offs and mistakes but nothing horrible.  We are excitedly looking forward to session 2 this after noon.

England and Wales 2016 – day 2

August 11, 2016

This morning the team got to go hack out ponies with Emma, Sophia, and CJ.  When they got back we had a mini practice session.

Next was a trip to Monmouth for breakfast/lunch and then off to sight see castles!   First we went to Caerphilly Castle.  It is an old massive castle under restoration.  Super cool, with lots of steps to climb and walk ways to explore.

Next we went to Castle Coch which is a refurbished castle, more of a small residence in comparison.  It was furnished and fully decorated.  What a difference between the two.

We also fit in a little time in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, checking out a few shops.

Dinner was at “The Stable – pizza pies and cider”.  I loved it. They serve gourmet pizzas and British pies (think meat pies) and boast over 80 varieties of cider.  Chrissy and I got the sampler.   We all tried some new pizzas, including a crab pizza and a surf and turf pizza.  Yum.

I was also offered the opportunity to ride in the veterans session at world individuals. If you know me even a little you know I was beyond excited for the opportunity.  But unfortunately it’s the night before we will be arriving st individuals so I won’t be able to make it.  *gutted*. Sniff sniff.  Maybe (read – please please hopeful) sometime in the future.

Now it is time for bed so we can be up for another amazing day.  And maybe the team will get in some blog time in thei own words tomorrow.

Have I mentioned how much I love this country?

England trip 2016 -day 1

August 10, 2016

The team left MA4 on Sunday and went back to Mackenzie’s house for the night where they repacked. Monday morning we all met up and headed to JFK airport to start the trip.  Woo!

The flights were smooth, and we arrive on time and picked up our big van. Wendi hopped in the drivers seat and we shoved off.

The team promptly feel asleep while wendi and Krista detoured to the Uffington White Horse, a bronze era massive horse carved into the chalk on the side of a hill.  The excitement was limited when everyone realized their was hill that needed to be climbed to get up above the horse.  Everyone was way too tired to make that climb.

We hopped back in the van and made a second pit stop for a bite to eat at a quaint pub called The Rose and Crown.  Mackenzie gets the gold star for trying something new – fish pie! The rest of the team played it safe with burgers – lame.

Getting to the Lockyers was a bit tricky.  The gps let us down and our phone reception was less than spotty.  After quite a bit of circling the area, looking for an “American mailbox” (we were looking for red white and blue) we found a green mailbox that was clearly from the US.  Ah ha!  Sophie and CJ met us and we got settled in and chatted.

Ron, Chrissy and Emma showed up shortly after us with a new pony and fish and chips for everyone.  After chowinf down the team got to spend some time hanging out with Emma and settled into the Lorry for the night. The adults stays up chatting before calling it night.

Now let’s look forward to tomorrow and our first full day!

Good night for now.

Ogilvy Love

August 9, 2016

My teammate and friend, Averi gave me the bestest bday present at MA4.  She gave me an Ogilvy half pad for Poe, complete in team colors.  I freaking love it.  She knew I had been wanting one for quite a long time and she knew that I had been having a bumpy summer.   And she knew I would love it. What an amazing friend I have.  Seriously. Love that girl.

May I also mention it was wrapped expertly in bacon and strawberry wrapping paper?  Lol

Look how hot Poe looks in it.
