Helmet Ear Covers. – 2014

January 7, 2014

Yesterday Poe and I got in a nice 30 minute hack before dark. It was 16 degrees with the wind chill.

When it comes to riding in the cold, or really, doing anything in the cold, it’s all about how you dress. I put on winter Kerrits. They are fleece lined and have a cargo pocket. I LOVE these pants. I put on an Under Armour cold gear mock turtle neck top with a long sleeved t-shirt and a hoodie. Then I pulled my nice warm coveralls over top. I added my Muck Boots and a hat and gloves for good measure.

One thing was missing, my ear warmers. They are black double thick fleece triangles that Velcro to the harness of a riding helmet and cover the ears. I have no idea where I put them.

Later I was sitting at home and I thought I might try making some new ones. But, I was snuggled up with my dog so it had to wait.

December Slate Lick

January 6, 2014

Carol Ann and I got out for a nice ride at Slate Lick in National Forest right before the new year.  We tried a new trail, some of which was unmarked, and some of which was pretty covered by fallen trees, but we managed to find the switch back and finished the circuit.  It was a good ride.

I am pretty sure this is the 2012 winner of the Oregon Trial Horse Competition.  Really neat course.

Pony Stacking – 2014

January 3, 2014

There are some Taylormade games competitions coming up over the next three months. They are fun one-day individual competitions in Maryland. I am eager to go and get some miles on Poe before the spring season. Carol Ann is also interested in going and we would like to be able to bring Simon for our friend Jenny to ride.

Carol Ann and I both have two horse slant load trailers, but since we are talking about ponies, it is possible to leave the divider open and put in a third pony. We have done it before with a different combination of ponies and we had both of our trailers and three extra wide ponies with us. So we measured our trailers and then stacked the ponies inside.

Success!
