October 14, 2013

I am cleaning the leather tack now. All the non leather tack has been through the wash and is hung up drying.

Laundry

October 13, 2013

I am home from the final large games competition of the year. But before I can blog about how awesome it was, I have a lot of laundry to get through.

This pile includes a large bag full of all the Old School team gear, blankets for 2 ponies and 1 dog, and tack for two ponies (minus the saddles). Fun!

Poe’s Bridle! – 2013

September 9, 2013

I fitted Poe into his very own bridle today. He looks great in it and it fits him so well.

I also ordered a crupper for him. It is a split crupper that is designed to hook to both sides of the saddle. But stupidly, English saddles only have hooks on the one side. Stupid tradition. But it will work great on my trail saddle and I can just hook both pieces to the tail of my English saddle. But I tried a little modification to help the crupper give additional stabilization first. Just to see if it worked.

I put a D saver on the top of the back billet strap on each side above the billet guard. Then I hooked the crupper ends to the D savers and tucked them under the cantle of my saddle. It worked surprisingly well. Much better than I expected actually.

Hilariously when I was fitting the crupper, I should have tightened my girth and put on my breastplate first. When I was done I noticed my saddle was rather far back.

And did I mention that Poe was amazing tonight? He was totally on. Stop, turn, go, stand. He was a champ. I love this pony!

First Clip of the Year

October 3, 2013

As a quick recap, the competition, MA4, last weekend was amazing. I’ll post on that later when I get some of the photos sorted. I am also working in rebitting Poe, but will reflect on that later as well.

Today I am commenting on the clip jobs I do last night. Poe is pretty fluffy already. And he has the softest, finest hair, but it’s making him sweat and pretty soon it’s going to be too chilly to host that downy off after a ride.

I wasn’t too sure what to expect from him but he was a pro. He stood nicely ground tied while I gave him a modified hunt clip. I did the lower half of his neck, around and down his chest. It included a diagonal along his side to the very top of his back leg and under his belly.

He looks pretty nice clipped up too. Although I might need to straighten the line at the top I his neck.

Simon was his normal self, which I a bit weird about clippers. He stood and wiggled his skin where ever I was working. So I just did the neck and cheat part of him for now. I’ll eventually reclip him like Poe is when I start trail riding him heavily this winter.

First String Pony

September 30, 2013

This weekend Poe was awesome.

Today I officially made him my first string games pony and ordered him his very own bridle.

I ordered a slightly modified version of this bridle from the Distance Depot in yellow.

This company is awesome. They will make you jut about anything you want and thy are so lovely in the phone. And the turn around time is quick, amazingly quick for custom made to order stuff too!

Of course I’ll post a photo of Poe in his new digs when it comes in the mail!
