TBT – 2/13/14

February 13, 2014

This photo is from my first Pony Club Nationals. It was about 1988 give or take a year. That year mounted games was held at a different venue than the rest of the event. It was at Frying Pan Park in Herndon, Virginia.

I was riding on the Frederick Pony Club junior team. We were the second team from Capital Region, behind Howard County Pony Club accepted.

We had 20 something or other points taken off before the competition started for having a parent in the barns, which was impossible to make up. We were not the best team and I think I was the only vaulter at that time. We came in an amazing last place, 13th I think, pale green ribbons. But we had a ton of fun.

I was riding my long time pony, Berry. She was a 14.1h strawberry roan Arab cross mare. She was a hand me down pony that took me most of the way through pony club and then did the same for my sister.

MGAA is Going to Ireland – 2014

February 12, 2014

Yep, the tickets are booked; in April, an MGAA team is going to compete in Ireland.

Congratulations to Riders: Abby, Aidan, Eliza, Emma, Genevieve and Jill

Chaperone: Lauren, Trainer: Krista (me)

The five younger riders will be on a team together and Genevieve will be guest riding on another team.

This is an amazing opportunity for our organization and our riders, and I can’t wait to share this experience with them.

I’ll be sure to blog throughout the trip so everyone can follow the adventure.

I love color

February 11, 2014

It is probably apparent from my blog that I love color. Poe is fully decked out in yellow and Simon is dressed in blue. This is very common with mounted games riders.

I am a dressage riders nightmare.

I saw this photo advertising composite stirrups with colored pads on Adam’s Supply the other day. I love the photo. I already have a yellow pair of them
on Poe’s saddle. I wonder how the pink would go with Simon and all
His blue? Clearly this photo is an excellent ad!

Shoe removal

February 10, 2014

While I was away for three weeks over the summer, Simon removed all four of his shoes. I found one of them the other day.

(Yep, still nothing exciting to blog about. I like this photo though).

USA USA USA – 2014

February 9, 2014

Cheering “USA USA USA WOO!” loudly, and throwing my fists into the air while sporting Stars and Stripes apparel, that’s how I couch surf the Olympics.

The only non horse sport I have ever participated in throughout my life was swimming for two years for my high school. I never played soccer, or enjoyed running, I suck majorly at riding a bike, and other than sledding down the neighbors hill as a kid, the only snow sport I have tried involved a shovel, the driveway, and freeing my truck.

But I am 100% enthusiastic about international competition and I love my country.

Its fantastic to see people with different political ideas, economic standings and ways of life, coming together to cheer their country on.

As a competitor who has ridden for my country on numerous occasions, there is no feeling quite like representing your country. They work hard and they are there representing us! They deserve our support.

So, I’ll put my patriotic hoodie on and chant “USA” all Olympics long. Even if I have no idea what a good run really looks like, or if our guy (or gal) falls, “Hell Yea USA!”
