Napping Pony

April 24, 2013

Linus likes to nap.  I catch him quite frequently.  He likes me to rub and scratch him and join him for a break.  Until Simon sees us and gets jealous and puts an end to it.

He likes to fluff up a pile of hay, and nap in the middle, where he can eat while he relaxes.

Today’s Ride

April 23, 2013

This weekend we have our first big team competition of the season.  So I am focusing on schooling for that for the next few days.

Today I tacked up Simon and headed down to the riding field to get in a nice schooling, and Linus followed us.  I walked around the field setting up some equipment, and Linus followed behind messing it back up.  It was a little frustrating but also very comical.

I got in some litter practice, which was not my smoothest, but had a few nice bottle picks, places and turns.  Meanwhile, Linus got in a good full body scratch on a tree and then moved to a bucket of balls, dumped it and knocked the items around.  I ignored him and moved on to some two flag practice, which was going smoothly, until I turned to run through it again and found Linus pulling the first flag out of the cone.

He eventially started cantering along behind Simon.

I think he is eager to start his training back up next week!

Nice Weather – Ride Time

April 11, 2013

Nice weather roared on in, and I am taking advantage by getting in some pony time.

This week I took the time to pull Simon’s mane and give him a bath. I worked on 2 flag endlessly for two ride sessions and my bottle puts and picks.

I also discovered that Linus needs his wolf teeth out before I ride him again. They are sitting right where the bit goes and its not fair to ride him and expect him to focus with them bothering him.

Simon spent some time destroying the “roundish pen” two times. I also found the games equipment pulverized, nice. Simon even ripped up a cone and the mounting block is covered in bite marks.

I put up a tape fence to split the riding field up, but that got pulled down immediately. Granted it was not the most secure fence, and I have not turned it hot, but still. I suspected it was all Simon, until I caught Linus in action. Later I stopped him from stealing a halter from the barn. Uh oh. Do I have two Simons?

It is hard work pulling the fence down.

Linus and Daisy

April 10, 2013

On Saturday I was putting in a little hack time on Simon in the riding field, when Linus and Daisy came running down.  They were fully engaged in an uproarious game of pony-chase-dog, and loving it.

Teeter Totter

April 7, 2013

Just a  little side note –  Yesterday was Simon’s 7th birthday!  And I just love that pony more and more.

Today Carol Ann and I gave a clinic at The Saddle Doctor,  in Timberville, Virginia.  Afterwards we had a practice.  Then we tried out their teeter totter.  Simon Rocked it.  He walked right across it like it was no thang.  The second time we beefed it up by stopping in the middle after it teetered forward, backed up so it teetered back, then rode forward, teetering it again, and off then end.  That is what the video is of.

May 12th, The Saddle Doctor is going to have a trail obstacle fun day, and me and Simon are going!

More on the clinic in a future post.
